new year starters

Like the perpetually repeating cycles of the calendar, another year has passed. Calculating activities and movements organized in units of time, we assess, move on and proceed to yet another year cycle. We mark the start of the year with new goals, better days and fresh memories. But most of all, we learn more about life and what truly matters the most.

We learn that if we don't love ourselves, then we have to protect ourselves from ourselves. We learn that as we get older, we have fewer friends. It shouldn't be now as much hard work to keep them. That we all have titles in life. We just have to own it whatever it is. We learn not to compare ourselves to anybody. We all have a different kind of success. We have always been told to move on and to let go of the past. But like the present, the past is all we have. There are certain moments that we should hang on to because we won't be able to duplicate that level of happiness. This is one of your happy place. That in time, the simplest things are the most significant.

As we skipped the anticipated end of the world, it surely meant a new beginning. A new consciousness that is growing. How priorities are changing. How all the human clutter in our lives are naturally sorting out. A smile to see a new crack in the wall. "We're preparing to climb Mount Pulag. 2013 is the year of making new memories," my sister-in-law announced when asked how she's starting her year. For me, that's one perfect way to embrace a whole new era. So, in light of new beginnings, let us not anymore tell our sob stories. After all, we did survive said prophecy. Happy New Year, Happy Blog!
